Tour Info

KALPAKI - MPOURAZANI - KONITSA :

Kalpaki village is located 30 km away from Ioannina city and its name is strongly linked with the Greek battles against the Italian forces during World War II as this village constituted the first line of defense against Axis powers. Its name is almost synonym to the famous word OCHI (meaning “no”) that was the reply to the Italian ultimatum in 1940. At the entrance of the village there is a very interesting War Museum with rich exhibits, graphic and audio representation of the Greek army battles against the Italian invading forces.

We move forward to Bourazani Environmental Educational Park where visitors can have direct contact with wild animals (deer, roe deer, wild boar, platoni etc.) while qualified staff using audiovisual means offer information on the area’s fauna and flora in specially designed settings.

Very close to the Greek-Albanian border area, at the junction of Aoos and Sarantaporos Rivers there is Molyvdoskepasti Monastery, one of the most representative Byzantine monuments of Epirus.

Our final destination is Konitsa town, built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Trapezitsa Mountain. Its traditional stone arch bridge is considered one of its distinguishing features, while the entire area is a very popular tourist destination and starting point for all those who want to explore Pindos Mountains or to engage in some alternative tourism activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paragliding, climbing, etc. Hiking lovers can follow the path that starts from Konitsa Bridge and ends at the Stomio Monastery (total duration 1h 45m) crossing the heart of the National Park and enjoying the astonishing view to the Aoos gorge.
